NDLEA Secures 974 Convictions, 11 Kingpins Sentenced

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced that it secured 974 convictions for drug offenses nationwide within the first quarter of 2026, which includes 11 major traffickers sentenced to a total of 254 years in prison. The agency's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this information in a statement issued on Friday.

The breakdown of the convictions shows 265 cases in January, 316 in February, and 393 in March, with a total of 899 male and 75 female offenders. Among the high-profile convictions, Adegbit Solomon, an Italy-based businessman known as "Obama," received a 130-year sentence from the Federal High Court in Lagos for 15 counts of border drug offenses, with the court ordering his sentence to run concurrently and including asset forfeiture.

Ridwan Animashaun was sentenced to 25 years by the Federal High Court in Ibadan for drug trafficking, while Rauf Asogba and Seun Olaniyi received 17-year terms in Ogun State. NDLEA Chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa described these convictions as a significant milestone in the fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
