INEC Backs More Women in Nigerian Political Leadership Push

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has voiced its support for increased female representation in Nigerian political leadership. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, endorsed the call for more women in political party leadership and elective positions during a meeting with the Women Collective group.

While acknowledging progress in some parties, Yakubu emphasized the need for affirmative action to ensure marginalized groups, including women, have greater representation in legislative bodies. He highlighted the importance of legal provisions, suggesting amendments to the Constitution and Electoral Act to facilitate this goal.
