New INEC Chair Amupitan to Hold First Meeting with Directors Today

Professor San Amupitan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is set to hold his first official meeting with INEC directors in Abuja. Amupitan, a 58-year-old law professor, is expected to be sworn in by President Bola Tinubu at the Federal Executive Council meeting in the Presidential Villa.

His appointment follows the end of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu's tenure.

The confirmation process involved the Senate, with President of the Senate Godswil Akpabio overseeing the rigorous questioning. Amupitan's expertise in constitutional and international law is highlighted as he takes on the role of leading Nigeria's electoral body.
