INEC Chairman Clarifies Misinterpretation on Result Transmission

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, addressed recent media claims regarding the use of "real-time" transmission of election results during a visit to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In a statement released by INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, it was clarified that at no point did Prof. Amupitan use the phrase "real-time" to describe the commission's technical processes.

The clarification followed a press engagement where he responded to questions about INEC's technological capabilities. Prof. Amupitan reiterated that INEC has established protocols for electronic transmission of results, as outlined in the Electoral Act.

He confirmed that results would be uploaded and transmitted via the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) but emphasized that the process does not allow for simultaneous live feeds of votes cast. The commission remains committed to transparency and accurate reporting, urging media partners to avoid misrepresentations that could lead to public misinformation.
