Nigerian Senate Clarifies Real-Time Election Result Transmission Not Electronic Voting

The Nigerian Senate, through Sen. Adeniyi Adegbomir, clarified that the real-time transmission of election results by INEC does not signify electronic voting.

The Senate's ad hoc panel reviewing the Electoral Bill of 2026 explained that INEC's iRev platform is solely for publicizing already declared election results, not for voting. They highlighted that Nigeria has not adopted an e-voting system and that the iRev software is not for voting but for result dissemination.

The Senate addressed concerns raised by civil society organizations regarding the potential loopholes in the bill's language on electronic result transmission, emphasizing the need for transparency and safeguards in the electoral process.
