INEC Extends Deadline for Political Parties' Membership Registers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that all political parties have submitted their membership registers as required. INEC's chairman of the voter education committee, Mohan Kudu Haruna, disclosed this information in a statement on Friday.

The commission had initially set a deadline for political parties to submit their registers by May 8, 2026, but extended it to May 10, 2026, after political parties raised concerns during a meeting held on March 24, 2026. The adjustment aligns with provisions in Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026, which allows political parties to conduct their primaries within the approved period from April 23 to May 30, 2026.

Membership registers must be submitted no later than 21 days before the conduct of the respective primaries, and INEC has committed to ensuring a free, fair, credible, and inclusive electoral process.
