INEC Resumes Voter Registration Phase on May 11, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will resume the final phase of nationwide voter registration on May 11, 2026, which will continue until July 10, 2026, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee.

The second phase of the voter registration exercise was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for data cleaning following public claims regarding the registration process. Haruna urged eligible citizens who have turned 18 and missed earlier phases to take advantage of this opportunity to register.

The statement emphasized that new registrations and updates can be made during this period, and citizens are advised to seek transfers or replacements for lost or damaged permanent voter cards through the online portal. The commission aims to ensure an accurate and credible voter database and will display registered voter claims for public scrutiny from July 23 to July 29, 2026.
