PDP's Nwoku Olaka Johnson Wins Rivers South East Senate Seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Nwoku Olaka Johnson of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Rivers South East Senate by-election held on Saturday. The results were announced at the INEC collation center in Bori, Khana Local Government Area.

Nwoku Olaka Johnson received a total of 47,961 votes, significantly ahead of his closest rival, Osarosaka Ebenez Erewari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 1,647 votes. Other candidates included Douglas Fabek Beeka of the Action Alliance (AA) with 1,175 votes and Sam Kinane Barikpoa of the Labour Party (LP) with 367 votes.

The by-election was necessitated by the vacancy created by the death of Senator Barri Barinada Mpigi in February 2026. The election involved four political parties, and the results were confirmed by Professor Rosemari Ogu from the University of Port Harcourt.
