PDP Demands INEC Remove Anyanwu as National Secretary

The Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw its recognition of Samuel N. Anyanwu as National Secretary.

This demand follows a judgment from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which affirmed Anyanwu's expulsion from the party. A formal letter dated April 16, 2026, addressed to INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, was submitted by counsel Abdullahi Ibrahim, who argued that INEC is constitutionally bound to enforce the court's judgment.

Anyanwu had previously challenged his expulsion in court, but the court dismissed his suit on January 12, 2026, affirming the expulsion. The PDP's legal team insists that Anyanwu cannot act on behalf of the party and has warned that continued recognition of him by INEC would breach constitutional duties.

They demand that INEC remove Anyanwu's name from its official portal and threaten contempt proceedings against INEC if their demands are not met.
