Court Issues Notice Against INEC Chair Over PDP Dispute

The Federal High Court in Abuja issued a notice against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Samuel Anyanwu, for failing to comply with a court order.

The order, delivered on January 12, 2026, dismissed Anyanwu's suit challenging his expulsion from the PDP. The court's Form 48 warned that non-compliance could lead to contempt charges and imprisonment.

Anyanwu's expulsion was ratified by the PDP leadership on November 15, 2025, following recommendations from the party's disciplinary committee. Despite the legal battles, Anyanwu's faction, led by Tanimu Turaki, has called for the immediate withdrawal of Anyanwu's recognition as a party member.

The court's judgment remains valid and enforceable under Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution, emphasizing that Anyanwu cannot act on behalf of the PDP due to his expulsion.
