PDP Demands INEC Remove Anyanwu as National Secretary

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary. This request follows a judgment delivered by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on January 12, 2026, which upheld Anyanwu's expulsion from the party due to alleged anti-party activities.

The PDP explained that its National Disciplinary Committee had previously recommended Anyanwu's expulsion, a decision that was ratified by the party's leadership. Despite this, the PDP argues that INEC continues to recognize Anyanwu, which they describe as an affront to the judiciary.

The party insists that INEC is obligated to enforce its rules and has called for the immediate removal of Anyanwu's name from INEC's official records. The PDP has warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action, including contempt proceedings against INEC's leadership, and expressed hope that the electoral body would act swiftly to avoid further instability within the opposition party.
