Hashim Critiques INEC's Authority Over Political Parties

Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, a former presidential candidate, expressed strong criticism of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during a press conference in Abuja on Friday. He accused INEC of overreach by attempting to impose its will on political parties concerning candidate nominations.

Hashim emphasized that INEC is not in a position to dictate terms to political parties, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 elections. He called for the reconstitution of INEC and suggested that the current chairman should either resign or face mass action from the political parties.
