Olawepo-Hashim Demands INEC Chairman's Resignation

Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential candidate, has called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in response to the recently released timetable for the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Saturday, Hashim rejected the revised schedule for party primaries announced by INEC on February 26, describing it as an overreach of the commission's powers and alleging that it was designed to favor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He emphasized that the electoral body lacks constitutional authority to dictate when political parties should hold their primaries beyond ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines for candidate submissions. Hashim warned that if the INEC Chairman does not resign, Nigerians would embark on mass action to prevent the continuation of the current administration.

He further alleged that the shift of primary dates was a deliberate attempt to weaken opposition parties amidst ongoing internal disputes and court cases. Hashim stressed the need for the reconstitution of INEC to guarantee credible elections in 2027, highlighting the importance of public confidence in the electoral process.
