INEC launches PVC collection, voter register display across Nigeria

Starting Friday, October 9, the Independent National Electoral Commission will distribute permanent voter cards and display preliminary voter registers…

Across the nation, the Independent National Electoral Commission has launched a week-long initiative spanning October 9 to October 15, 2026. The push centres on distributing Permanent Voter Cards and showcasing preliminary voter registers in multiple states: Sokoto, Plateau, and Ekiti.

This coordinated effort forms part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. In Sokoto State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner Umar Yusuf Garba outlined the exercise during a Thursday media briefing.

He described this seven-day activity as crucial groundwork for upcoming contests. The presidential and National Assembly elections have been set for January 16, 2027.

Citizens participating in the register display can check their personal details recorded in electoral files and submit claims or raise objections if they spot errors. Before the final register gets compiled for use on polling day, this verification step is vital.

The one-week period also gives eligible persons who have not collected PVCs an opportunity to do so. Meanwhile, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, serving as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, has encouraged registered voters to seize the chance to collect their cards during this window.

Running simultaneously in multiple states reveals a coordinated national approach to voter mobilisation activities. Preparations intensify as the January 2027 presidential contest approaches.
