INEC Collaborates with Security for 2027 Elections in Nasarawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday its plan to collaborate with security agencies in Nasarawa State to enforce campaign guidelines and electoral laws in preparation for the 2027 general elections. During an Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting in Lafia, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Muhammed Abubakar stated that this collaboration aims to ensure political parties and candidates adhere strictly to campaign regulations, fostering a peaceful environment for all participants.

Abubakar emphasized that political campaigns should be issue-based and comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC regulations. He stated that hate speech, incitement, political violence, and defacement of public property would not be tolerated, in line with the Constitution and Electoral Act.

He also highlighted that the credibility of the election relies on the safety of voters and electoral personnel, urging security agencies to proactively monitor campaign activities and arrest violators, irrespective of party affiliation.
