INEC Seeks Monarchs' Support for Peaceful Ekiti Election on June 20

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria is seeking the support of traditional rulers in Ekiti State to ensure a peaceful governorship election scheduled for June 20. Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Ekiti State, made this appeal during a stakeholders' meeting in Ado Ekiti.

Emphasizing the critical role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and unity, Omoseyindemi highlighted the significant influence monarchs have in their communities. INEC has already begun implementing plans to promote information and participation to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in a peaceful environment.

The commission has engaged political parties and provided guidelines for their participation in campaigns, emphasizing compliance with electoral laws to foster unity during the election process. Traditional rulers have been urged to continue playing their roles in ensuring peaceful elections.

INEC has also commenced voter registration exercises to enhance inclusivity and access to the electoral process, with plans to devolve the exercise to ward levels to encourage greater participation.
