Oyebanji Seeks Traditional Rulers' Support for 2026 Bid

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji is actively seeking the backing of traditional rulers as he prepares for his second term bid in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026. During an event in Ijero Ekiti, Oyebanji highlighted the role of traditional institutions in nurturing democracy and solicited support from monarchs across 140 towns in the state.

His deputy, Monisad Afuy, spoke on the importance of traditional rulers in ensuring peace and stability within communities. Oyebanji noted that his administration has installed 11 traditional rulers across various communities and has respected the selection processes of these rulers.

He expressed gratitude for the support received during his first term and emphasized the need for continued collaboration with traditional institutions to consolidate the gains of democracy. Oyebanji's campaign for a second term is also supported by various groups, including civil servants, artisans, and market women, reflecting a broad base of community engagement.
