INEC Staff Hold Farewell Ceremony for Ex-Chairman Yakubu

Staff members of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) bid farewell to outgoing chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, in a symbolic ceremony resembling a funeral. A viral video captured INEC employees singing a Christian hymn as a farewell gesture to Yakubu, who completed his tenure as chairman.

Yakubu, who first assumed office in November 2015 and was reappointed for a second term in 2020, introduced initiatives like the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and INEC Results Viewing Portal to enhance transparency in Nigerian elections. However, his leadership faced criticism during the 2023 general election for the failure of the Results Viewing Portal, leading to accusations of result manipulation.
