Yakubu Steps Down as INEC Chairman for Smooth Transition

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, explained his decision to step down, citing the need for a smooth transition to a new chairman. Yakubu's exit was announced during a consultative meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja.

He handed over to a senior National Commissioner, Ms. May, to serve as the Acting Chairman.

Yakubu invoked constitutional provisions to facilitate the interim handover and ensure a seamless electoral process in Nigeria. Expressing gratitude for the cooperation received during his tenure, Yakubu emphasized the importance of a well-organized electoral system in Africa.
