INEC Suspends Voter Revalidation Amid Disenfranchisement Concerns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the suspension of the voter revalidation exercise, originally set for April 4, 2026, due to rising concerns from various stakeholders, including political scientists and opposition parties. The exercise aimed to sanitize the voter register by removing ineligible entries, but the African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticized it as potentially disenfranchising millions of Nigerians before the upcoming elections.

ADC's statement, signed by National Public Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, argued that requiring already registered voters to revalidate less than ten months before the polls could suppress turnout and deepen voter apathy.
