INEC Resumes Voter Registration on May 11, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the resumption of nationwide voter registration, set to begin on May 11, 2026, and continue until July 10, 2026. This decision follows a suspension of the registration process on April 17, 2026, which was implemented to allow the commission to clean the voter register in response to public claims of irregularities.

Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee, urged eligible Nigerians, particularly those aged 18 and above who were unable to register during the earlier phase, to take advantage of this opportunity. The commission also advised voters to update their details, transfer registrations, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) through available channels, including an online portal and local government offices.

INEC plans to display the registered voters for public scrutiny later in July 2026, specifically from July 23 to July 29, 2026, to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the voter register.
