Timi Frank Urges US to Intervene in Nigeria's Democracy

Timi Frank, the former deputy national public secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised alarms regarding the state of Nigeria's democracy, urging for intervention from the United States. His statement, made on Thursday, was a reaction to the Federal High Court's decision not to recognize David Mark's leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Frank lamented that the actions of the electoral body and the APC appear to destabilize Nigeria's democratic system, suggesting a coordinated effort to weaken political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned that the current trends mirror the tactics used during the regime of former military head of state Sani Abacha, which included suppressing democratic institutions.

Frank expressed concern over the internal crises within major opposition parties, including the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and called for international action against what he described as violations of democratic integrity.
