INEC to Mobilize 1.4 Million NYSC Members for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced plans to mobilize 1.4 million members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This was revealed by INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan during a courtesy visit to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Monday. Amupitan stated that the involvement of NYSC members is essential for a credible electoral process, highlighting that INEC cannot conduct elections in Nigeria without their participation.

For the 2027 elections, which include presidential and national assembly elections on January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly elections on February 6, 2027, a total of 1,414,768 ad hoc staff will be required, with NYSC members accounting for nearly 90% of the registered area officers. Amupitan emphasized the importance of training and mobilizing these corps members to ensure a smooth electoral process, reflecting on their significant contributions during previous elections.
