NYSC Requests Higher Pay for Election Duty Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called for increased remuneration and better benefits for corps members serving as ad hoc staff during elections. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu made this appeal during a visit from Professor Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at the NYSC headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

Nafiu urged INEC to expedite the release of names of corps members assigned to electoral duties to facilitate their preparation. He emphasized the corps members' critical role in conducting credible elections, highlighting their dedication and training.

The NYSC aims to mobilize 707,384 corps members for the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and a total of 1,414,768 for the governorship and house assembly elections on February 6, 2027. Nafiu reiterated the NYSC's commitment to collaborating with INEC to ensure a transparent electoral process and the safety of corps members during their duties.
