Infantino Denies UEFA Payment Allegations Amid Scandal

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has "categorically denied" allegations that UEFA paid a six-figure sum to a former staff member after an alleged affair during his tenure as UEFA general secretary. The Daily Telegraph reported on the payment, which UEFA confirmed was made to cover the former worker's departure and an MBA course, asserting it was within their rules at the time.

A FIFA spokesperson stated, “FIFA President Gianni Infantino vehemently denies these allegations, and they are absolutely false.” UEFA acknowledged that their employment rules have since been strengthened, ensuring all staff operate under the same terms. Infantino served UEFA for 16 years, becoming general secretary in 2009 before being elected FIFA president in 2016.

The allegations come amid increased scrutiny of Infantino's leadership, particularly after his proposal to allow private investors to purchase shares in a FIFA tournament management firm was rejected by UEFA and two other confederations. Countries like Norway have called for his resignation, although the FIFA management board has supported him.
