UEFA Takes Legal Action Against FIFA's Infantino

UEFA is initiating criminal legal proceedings against FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarding a proposed plan to sell stakes in FIFA's competitions to private investors, which has since been scrapped. Documents indicate that UEFA has filed an application in Switzerland to access evidence related to the case, accusing Infantino of "criminal mismanagement." The plan, which Infantino proposed after the summer World Cup, involved creating a new company, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), to facilitate the sale.

UEFA claims that the proposal was designed to benefit Infantino and select private investors, asserting that it would have harmed FIFA and its 211 member associations. The application criticizes the valuation of the stakes, stating they were not independently verified and were offered at an unreasonably low price.

UEFA is also seeking access to files from FIFA businesses based in Florida to support its claims and may pursue charges against other FIFA officials involved in the plan.
