Infantino Supports Vinicius Jr After Racist Abuse Incident

Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President, has publicly supported Brazilian footballer Vinicius Jr following an incident of racist abuse during a UEFA Champions League match where Real Madrid defeated Benfica 1-0 at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. The abuse allegedly came from Benfica's winger Gianluca Prestianni, prompting the referee, Francoi Letexi, to halt the match in accordance with UEFA's anti-racism protocol.

Infantino condemned the racist behavior, stating that football has no space for racism and urged authorities to identify and hold the perpetrator accountable. He reiterated FIFA's commitment to combating all forms of discrimination.

Former player Thierry Henry criticized UEFA for its lack of effective action against racism, calling for real measures rather than empty gestures. UEFA's rules stipulate that discriminatory behavior can lead to long suspensions, although proving such allegations remains challenging.
