Lawmakers Criticize Tinubu Over Nigeria's Insecurity Crisis

On Wednesday, the minority caucus in the House of Representatives, led by Fred Agbedi, criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration for its inability to tackle worsening insecurity and economic challenges in Nigeria. During a press conference at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Agbedi described the country as "bleeding" and "confused," citing a significant rise in poverty and public frustration.

He referenced the tragic abduction and subsequent death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in Katsina State as indicative of the deteriorating security situation. The lawmakers called for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Abubakar's death and demanded a comprehensive security strategy from the government.

They expressed concern over the continued abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, urging immediate coordinated rescue operations. Additionally, the caucus raised alarms about a recent federal high court judgment that could undermine Nigeria's democratic health by deregistering five opposition political parties, which they believe poses a threat to political pluralism ahead of the 2027 general elections.
