Nigerian Senate Urges Full Implementation of Defense Budget Amid Insecurity Concerns

The Nigerian Senate, during a budget defense session, urged the full implementation of Nigeria's defense budget to combat the country's security challenges effectively. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense emphasized the need to avoid delays in funding, which could empower insurgent and criminal groups operating nationwide.

The session, attended by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christoph Musa, reviewed the ministry's 2025 performance and 2026 budget proposals.

The Senate expressed concerns over the slow pace of implementing the 2025 defense budget, stressing the importance of timely preparations for the upcoming fiscal year. Lawmakers highlighted the need for transparency, accountability, and improved defense spending performance.

Gen. Musa acknowledged the persistent security challenges in Nigeria and assured the Senate of the ministry's commitment to enhancing outcomes with the support of the National Assembly.
