Nigerian Senators Raise Concerns Over Poor Funding Impacting Committee Work

Nigerian senators, including Anthony Ani and Titus Zam, raised alarm over inadequate funding for Senate standing committees during a meeting to review the 2026 budget. Anthony Ani, representing Ebonyi South, revealed that the South East Development Commission received no funds since its inauguration.

Titus Zam of the North Central Development Commission and others expressed worries about the lack of funds affecting the committees' functions. Solomon Adeola, the Appropriation Committee chairman, emphasized the need for oversight on revenue-generating agencies to ensure budget implementation.

Francis Fadaunsi and Oyewunmi Olaler highlighted the persistent issue of poor budget funding affecting projects and contractors. Adam Oshiomhole urged colleagues to exercise restraint and await details on the proposed N58.472 trillion 2026 budget.

The senators called for improved budget implementation and accountability to address the funding challenges faced by various committees.
