Atiku Abubakar Demands INEC to Postpone 2027 Elections

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has publicly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its decision to schedule the next general elections for February 20, 2027. He described this decision as "insensitive" and indicative of "poor judgment," particularly because it falls within the Ramadan period, which is set to run from February 7 to March 8, 2027.

In a statement reported by Daily Post, Atiku argued that conducting elections during Ramadan could negatively affect voter participation and undermine the inclusivity of the electoral process. He emphasized the need for maximum participation in civic activities, especially during significant religious observances, and expressed concern over INEC's lack of sensitivity to Nigeria's socio-religious realities.

Atiku called for INEC to urgently reconsider the election date, asserting that it reflects a troubling lack of foresight and respect for the citizens of Nigeria.
