Kano Governor Plans Defection to APC, Straining Relationship with Kwankwaso

Kano Governor Abba Yusuf is set to defect from the NNPP to the APC, marking the end of his long-standing political association with benefactor Rabiu Kwankwaso. Yusuf is reportedly working behind the scenes to secure the backing of key members of the National Assembly, state, and local government chairmen.

Despite Kwankwaso's loyalists, Yusuf's defection plan is gaining momentum. The rift deepened when Kwankwaso summoned House of Assembly members to dissuade them from defecting.

Yusuf's proposal to replace Nasiru Gawuna as the APC deputy governorship candidate and position himself for the 2027 senatorial candidacy further strained relations with Kwankwaso.
