NNPP Condemns Abba Kabir Yusuf's Defection to APC as Betrayal to Kwankwaso and Kano Electorates

The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has condemned Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a betrayal to party leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the people of Kano. NNPP's spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, expressed disappointment, stating that Yusuf's move without consulting electorates amounts to breaching public trust.

The NNPP claims that Yusuf's victory in the governorship election was not solely due to Kwankwaso's support, emphasizing the party's role in his political rise. Ibrahim Karay, a party official, denied internal crises as the reason for Yusuf's defection, asserting that the NNPP remains united.

Yusuf formally joined the APC alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and nine members of the House of Representatives. His decision was supported by prominent APC figures, including Abdullahi Ganduje and Barau Jibrin.

Yusuf, previously associated with Kwankwaso's Kwankwasiyya movement, won the 2023 governorship election on the NNPP platform.
