Amnesty International Urges Internal Democracy for INEC Chairman Selection

Amnesty International's Director in Kogi, Comrade Sunday Jatto, stressed the importance of internal democracy in selecting the INEC chairman ahead of the 2027 general election in Nigeria. Jatto advocated for a transparent and democratic process involving human rights organizations and the Nigerian Bar Association to ensure a fair and unbiased selection.

He raised concerns about the impact of improper elections on Nigeria's democracy, highlighting the need to combat corruption and insecurity in the political sector. Jatto emphasized the role of internal democracy in enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of the electoral process, urging for the adoption of modern automation systems for conducting elections.
