Bassey Withdrawn from Nigeria Squad for Friendlies

Calvin Bassey has been withdrawn from the Nigeria national football team squad for upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan due to injury. The Super Eagles are currently regrouping in Antalya, Turkey, with the camp opening on Tuesday.

A total of 15 players, including captain Wilfred Ndidi, have arrived, while others are expected to join for the first training session. The team will face Iran on Friday at 4 PM Nigerian time and then play against Jordan on Tuesday, March 31, at 8 PM.

The fixtures were moved to Turkey due to security concerns in the Middle East. This gathering marks the beginning of a new phase for the team following their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Head coach Eric Chell had named a 23-man squad last week, with notable absentees including Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina. Chell is in the final year of his two-year contract and is reportedly seeking an improved salary package from the Nigeria Football Federation.
