IPC Condemns Arrest of Journalist's Wife by Nigerian Police, Alleges Intimidation

The International Press Centre (IPC) and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) condemned the arrest of Adenike Atanda, wife of investigative journalist Sodeeq Atanda, by the Nigerian police. Adenike, along with her nine-month-old baby, was detained for five hours in Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

IPC accused the police of using the infant as bait to arrest Sodeeq. Lanre Arogundade, IPC's Executive Director, criticized the police's actions, likening them to practices during military rule.

The incident highlights threats to journalists' safety and ongoing attempts to intimidate the press and their families.
