IPI Suspends Engagements with Nigerian Police Over Arrest of Journalist's Family

The International Press Institute (IPI) in Nigeria has denounced the arrest of a journalist's wife and infant by the Nigerian police, citing it as unlawful and an abuse of power. The journalist, Sodeeq Atanda, found his wife and child detained at a police station in Lagos without any legal basis.

The police allegedly harassed the family and coerced false information from them. IPI has suspended engagements with the Nigerian police until further investigations are conducted.

The police unit involved is under scrutiny, with the IPI expressing concerns over misconduct and abuse of power.
