IPI Blacklists Nigerian Officials Over Press Freedom Violations

The International Press Institute (IPI) has blacklisted Governor Umo, Bago, and IGP Egbetokun for press freedom violations in Nigeria. The IPI accused the two governors and the Inspector General of Police of unfriendly actions towards the press, such as ignoring appeals to stop arbitrary arrests of journalists.

The document was unveiled at the IPI Nigeria conference in Abuja, where Vice President Kashim Shettima spoke about the importance of an independent press in democracy. The event also highlighted the removal of veteran journalist Lanre Arogundade from the government's terror watch list.
