IPI Launches Global Campaign for Press Freedom in Nigeria

The International Press Institute (IPI) has initiated a global campaign targeting Niger State Governor Moham Umaru Bago, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and former Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for their alleged actions undermining press freedom in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the launch of IPI Nigeria's press freedom hub in Abuja, where IPI Nigeria President Musikilu Mojeed expressed concern over the lack of meaningful steps taken to address the issues highlighted in the institute's "infamous book" regarding violations against journalists.

Despite a request from Vice President Kashim Shettima for time to intervene and allow for dialogue, Mojeed lamented that no corrective actions have been taken. He warned that IPI Nigeria would escalate its efforts on international platforms until accountability is achieved.

Media expert Amina Salihu praised the IPI's initiative, emphasizing the importance of a free press as a cornerstone of democracy.
