IPOB Defies Soludo, Declares Sit-At-Home Protest in Southeast States

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a sit-at-home protest scheduled for Monday, February 2, across Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo states in Southeast Nigeria. This action comes in response to the closure of markets, particularly the Onitsha main market in Anambra State, following Governor Chukwuma Soludo's directive due to the continuous observance of sit-at-home orders since July 2020.

IPOB, which is currently advocating for the release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, criticized the Anambra State government for allegedly targeting Igbo traders with the market closures. The group described the sit-at-home as a means of resistance against perceived injustices and urged residents to stay indoors on February 2 to avoid violence.

IPOB's demand for Kanu's release and its call for calm during the protest reflect the escalating tensions in the region.
