Iran Criticizes U.S. for Diplomatic Failures Amid Tensions

Iran's Foreign Ministry, represented by spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, condemned the United States for its lack of genuine commitment to diplomatic efforts as peace negotiations falter. Baqaei pointed out multiple breaches of a fragile two-week truce, which took effect on April 8.

He cited three specific incidents, including a U.S. strike on an Iranian cargo vessel and ongoing American naval blockades affecting Iranian ports. The situation escalated following a February 28 strike that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which Baqaei claimed could lead to open war between Israel and the United States, destabilizing the region.

Previous direct talks between Tehran and Washington failed to produce an agreement to end hostilities. Despite President Donald Trump's announcement of direct American negotiations, Iran has not confirmed its participation in future talks, with Baqaei stating that negotiations remain deadlocked on two major issues: Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium and the future status of the Strait of Hormuz.
