Iran Establishes Maritime Agency for Hormuz Strait Control

Iran has formed a new maritime agency to oversee traffic in the Hormuz Strait, as announced by the country's top security body on Monday. This agency will provide real-time updates on operations and developments in the strait, which is a crucial passage for global oil shipments.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard will also share updates on maritime traffic. The establishment of this agency comes after Iran's maritime traffic has not returned to pre-war levels since the outbreak of conflict with the United States and Israel.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission, indicated that Iran is preparing a professional mechanism to manage traffic in the strait, which will be unveiled soon. The Hormuz Strait is vital for global oil transport, with approximately one-fifth of liquefied natural gas shipments passing through it.

Iran's control over this waterway has significant implications for global markets, especially given the ongoing tensions in the region.
