Iran Sets Conditions for Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Iran is currently working on a set of conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as regional diplomatic efforts intensify to restore dialogue between Tehran and Washington. This development coincided with a visit from Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to Tehran for discussions with senior Iranian officials.

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that Tehran is compiling demands in response to requests from regional mediators, emphasizing the need for Washington to take concrete and "practical steps" before Iran would agree to reopen the strategic waterway. Rezaei indicated that these conditions would be linked to broader diplomatic negotiations aimed at ending regional conflicts and addressing the consequences of U.S. actions during the ongoing war.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the importance of protecting freedom of navigation through the Strait in accordance with international law, as the waterway is vital for global energy supplies.
