Shi’ite Protests in Nigeria Spark Heightened Police Vigilance

In response to U.S. and Israeli airstrikes against Iran, Shi’ite protests occurred in various Nigerian states, including Kano, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe, Niger, and Sokoto. Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) held peaceful demonstrations, displaying placards denouncing the airstrikes and expressing solidarity with Iran.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu ordered heightened surveillance across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, particularly focusing on the North Central, North East, and North West regions. Disu's directive aims to prevent any potential unrest or sectarian tensions that could arise from the protests.

He reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to maintaining peace and security, urging citizens to remain calm and report suspicious activities. The IMN expressed deep sorrow over the situation in Iran and vowed to continue supporting Iranian resistance against perceived Western interference in Middle Eastern affairs.
