Congress Moves to Limit Trump's Military Powers on Iran

The U.S. Congress is taking steps to limit President Donald Trump's military powers concerning Iran, as Senator Tim Kaine introduced a bill aimed at requiring Trump to obtain congressional authorization before engaging in military conflict.

This legislative move comes in the wake of a substantial U.S. military buildup in the Middle East and claims from Trump that Iran poses an imminent threat to the United States. Kaine's bill, which he introduced shortly after the military buildup began, seeks to reassert Congress's constitutional role in declaring war, a power that has been a point of contention since the War Powers Act of 1973.

The bill is expected to be voted on in the Senate soon, with a potential vote in the House as well. Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has also expressed opposition to the military actions against Iran, emphasizing the need for a congressional vote to record opposition to the war.

Despite the bill's introduction, it is anticipated that it may face challenges, including a potential veto from Trump.
