Iran Strikes US Targets Amid Escalating Tensions

On Wednesday, Iran's Revolutionary Guards launched fresh attacks against US targets in the Middle East, escalating tensions amid an ongoing war. They claimed to have attacked 20 US vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and struck the US air base of Al-Azraq in Jordan with missiles, damaging military facilities.

This retaliation followed US strikes that destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, prompting the US military to direct crews to abandon ship. Oil prices surged, with Brent crude nearing $100 per barrel.

Iran has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz since the war began in February, requiring vessels to obtain permission and pay transit fees. The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, warned that Iran would continue to lose tankers for its attacks on US naval ships.

The Iranian army chief, Ali Abdollahi, threatened to target US bases if Iranian tankers were attacked, indicating a deepening stalemate between the two nations.
