Iran Attacks 10 Ships Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced attacks on 10 vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, claiming to have targeted two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers it labeled as non-compliant. This escalation follows U.S. strikes that destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, which the United States conducted after accusing Iran of targeting American warships.

Iranian authorities reported at least one death and one missing sailor due to the attacks, while the U.S. denied that any of its ships were hit. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global shipping route, with approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies passing through it.

The recent confrontations have raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy markets and commercial shipping. Additionally, Iran has imposed restrictions on waters extending from Chabahar into parts of the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, further heightening security concerns.

The situation has contributed to Brent crude prices rising above $100 a barrel, intensifying inflation worries across major economies.
