Ireland has published an official list of 11 countries eligible for its Working Holiday Authorisation programme, which allows young citizens to live and work abroad while experiencing different cultures. The programme, according to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, is based on bilateral agreements with partner nations, providing meaningful exposure to life and work in a foreign country for a defined period.

Non-Irish citizens must apply through the Irish embassy or relevant mission in their home country, while Irish citizens apply through the foreign embassy or consulate of the partner country. The authorisation is distinct from career migration, focusing on cultural experiences with work permitted to support participants financially.

The duration of the authorisation varies by bilateral agreement. The 11 listed countries include popular destinations like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan.

Notably, no African countries, such as Ghana, South Africa, or Kenya, are included, meaning their citizens must pursue standard visa or work permit routes to work in Ireland.
