Iroegbu Brothers Propel D’Tigers to FIBA Qualifiers Win

The Nigerian men's basketball team, D’Tigers, achieved a hard-fought 84-81 victory against Tunisia in the FIBA African Qualifiers. This win marks Nigeria's opening victory in a three-game qualifying window for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will take place in Doha, Qatar, from August 27 to September 12, 2027.

Ikenna Iroegbu and Chimezi Metu each scored 17 points, while We Iwundu added 14 points, and Uchenna Iroegbu contributed 13 points to the team's success. The Iroegbu brothers, born to a father from Uzuakoli and a mother from Umuawa, Umuahia in Abia State, have risen to prominence in Nigerian basketball.

This victory follows a previous win against Guinea on July 3, 2026, where Nigeria secured a 106-62 victory, and they are set to continue their campaign against Rwanda on July 5, 2026.
