D’Tigers Triumph Over Tunisia 84-81 in World Cup Qualifier

On Thursday, D’Tigers, Nigeria's senior men's basketball team, achieved a hard-fought victory against Tunisia, winning 84-81 in a crucial Group C game of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African qualifiers held in Luanda, Angola. This match marked the first competitive game for the team under newly appointed head coach David Fizdale.

D’Tigers started strong, edging Tunisia 23-21 in the opening quarter. However, Tunisia responded by winning the second quarter 23-20, leaving both teams level at halftime.

Nigeria regained control in the third quarter, taking it 21-19, and held a 20-18 advantage in the final period to seal the victory. This win significantly boosts Nigeria's chances of progressing in the race for a place in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

D’Tigers will return to action on Friday against Guinea, concluding the qualifying window against Rwanda on Sunday.
